SUMMARY:2 DAY PEDO/ORTHO WORKSHOP - Advanced Dental Team Training for Better Childhood Growth & Development
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, August 4\, 2017  |  Registration/Breakfast – 8:00am\nLecture/participation   8:30am – 5:00pm\nSaturday\, August 5\, 2017  |  Registration/Breakfast – 8:00am\nLecture/participation   8:30am – 4:00pm\n\nCOST  –  $895 Dentist\,  $225 Team Member\n\nWorkshop Description\nMalocclusion rates in children are extremely high and they are significant. Most malocclusions we identify in children are the result of the underdevelopment of the maxilla and mandible. This underdevelopment has an effect on the ability of a child to breathe through their nose. Ultimately\, the changes in breathing have an effect on the quality of sleep.  The result is children with sleep disordered breathing and various symptoms that come with it. The dental team is uniquely positioned to recognize and help these children early with a variety of techniques. This program is a comprehensive\, interactive and hands on training for the entire team so that all in attendance can incorporate Myofunctional appliance therapy techniques in a competent\, comfortable and effective manner. \n\n  \nDr. Ben Miraglia graduated from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine. He is a proud member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society. Dr. Miraglia completed a general practice residency program at Danbury Hospital in Connecticut. He has 22 years private practice experience in Mt. Kisco\, New York\, where his focus has been on early childhood growth and development. . Dr. Miraglia is a graduate of the United States Dental Institute where he learned his non-extraction and non-surgical orthodontic philosophy. He was appointed to the USDI faculty in 2008 and teaches nationally for them. Dr. Miraglia lectures nationally on childhood sleep disordered breathing and its impact on the development of the maxilla\, mandible and airway. \nDr. Miraglia holds faculty positions with Align Technology and the United States Dental Institute and is on the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Cosmetic Orthodontics as well as the American Academy of Physiological Medicine and Dentistry. Dr. Miraglia was recently honored with a position on the President’s Council of Northern Westchester Hospital in Mt. Kisco\, New York. \nDr. Miraglia and his wife Lisa enjoy 3 beautiful children\, Madison\, Max and Molly. \n\nThanks!\nEducational Objectives: \nAfter completing this 2 day program\, Dental Teams will be able to: \n• Understand the history and origins of malocclusion\n• Identify normal childhood head and neck development from age three to eleven\n• Identify abnormal childhood head and neck development from age three to eleven\n• Understand the effect of muscle weakness and dysfunction on the development of the maxilla and mandible\n• Understand the effect that an underdeveloped maxilla and mandible have on a childs airway\n• Identify the differences between nasal and mouth breathing\n• Understand the history and origins of malocclusion\n• Identify normal childhood head and neck development from age three to eleven\n• Identify abnormal childhood head and neck development from age three to eleven\n• Understand the effect of muscle weakness and dysfunction on the development of the maxilla and mandible\n• Understand the effect that an underdeveloped maxilla and mandible have on a childs airway\n• Identify the differences between nasal and mouth breathing\n• Understand the symptoms of childhood Sleep Disorder Breathing\n• Understand the relationship between Sleep Disorder Breathing and early childhood growth and development\n• Understand optimal treatment timing between the ages of three and eleven\n• Be able to collect necessary diagnostic records\n• Understand what forms and observations are needed from parents\n• Understand how to conduct a consultation with parents\n• Have opportunities for role playing the consultation with each other\n• Know what interceptive orthodontic treatment options exist\n• Understand how myofunctional guidance appliances work\n• Have a comprehensive understanding of the complete Myobrace appliance line for ages 3-12\n• Have an introduction to the Myobrace teen products\n• Learn how to measure the teeth for appliance selection\n• Understand how the Appliance Selector works\n• Understand which cases are excellent to begin with and which ones are more difficult\n• Have a comprehensive understanding of the myofunctional exercises that are necessary for the normal growth and development we desire to achieve\n• Myofunctional exercises will be taught and practiced by attendees for a level of mastery that will enable attendees to teach parents and patients will skill and confidence\n• Have a full understanding of when to offer fixed expanders to begin treatment\n• Learn how to order\, place\, adjust and eventually remove both upper and lower expanders\n• Understand how to develop a child’s airway\n• Develop a non-extraction\, non-surgical orthodontic philosophy\n• Understand the differences between non-extraction and extraction orthodontic techniques\n• Understand how Interceptive Orthodontics impacts the overall health and well-being of a child\n• Understand fee structures for the types of procedures being offered\n• Understand the orthodontic billing codes for submission to insurance\n• This course should prepare the dentist\, hygiene\, assistants\, financial coordinator\, treatment coordinator\, and reception team to help unhealthy children have an opportunity to become healthy again \nLOCATION \nEmbassy Suites – Airport\n7901 34th Avenue South\,\nBloomington\, MN 55425\nClose to Mall of America\n 14\nCREDITS\n14 Participation in Pedo /Ortho
